biography
Marvin Tate was born and raised in Chicago. His first book of poems, A Schoolyard of Broken Dreams was published in 1994 by Tia Chu Cha Press. For ten years he led the hyperbolic soul band D-Settlement through critical and acclaimed shows. Presently he writes for the literary magazine Make, teaches poetry in the Chicago Public Schools and is working on his first solo CD, The Family Swim, produced by Leroy Bach, formerly of Wilco and presently with the singer Beth Orton. Marvin also plays with the Indie All Star band, the Boogie Band.
